Thousands of Americans have taken our NEW YORK, UTAH and FLORIDA pistol permit classes since 2007. We were the first NRA Certified Pistol and Personal Protection Instructors to become Utah certified instructors in Western New York.

We offer courses all across the Northeast, and by arrangement across the United States - we can come to your club or facility to accomodate groups. Most of our classes provide fingerprinting, notary, and photo services to help you get your permit application in the mail fast. We have instructors all across NY State, but cannot possibly live everywhere we teach! In many cases, we go beyond the capabilities of local instructors to offer specialized training.

We work with great partners all across America - including: JJ Guns (Dunkirk), Alessi Holsters (Buffalo), and Niagara Gun Range (North Tonawanda) - and many others in Rochester, Syracuse and Utica.

We specialize in 3 areas:

1. Pistol permit classes for those who seek lawful concealed carry in up to 33 states.

2. Practical 8 hour courses through MDTS Training that teach citizens how to properly use a firearm in self defense. Any law abiding citizen carrying concealed can improve their skills and confidence with our training.

3. NEW PISTOL PERMIT REFRESHER COURSES DESIGNED BY US EXCLUSIVELY for PEOPLE WHO HAVE TAKEN OUR CLASSES. These are NOT part of any state's permit curriculum. While there is NO insurance from prosecution and investigation of lawful permit holders involved in a defensive shooting in accordance with use of force laws - people who make the time to stay up to date and revisit their training will certainly benefit.

ANOTHER FIRST! We now offer a two hour CONCEALED CARRY  REFRESHER class for $20. This class has three benefits to you:

1. A review of the laws applying to your permit preparing you for continued lawful carry.
2. A discussion of concealed carry tactics and scenarios that advance your defensive mindset.
3. A certificate issued to confirm your attendance and investment of time a someone truly concerned about preparing for a defensive encounter.
4. [OPTIONAL] A defensive shooting clinic for holders of a valid NYS pistol permit for up to 5 attendees at each update class -- for an additional $20.

3. We provide all UTAH & FLORIDA application forms FREE at our classes. A live shooting exercise is required for the FL permit - no shooting or firearms are required for the UT permit.

FL permits obtained through instructors that do not include a LIVE FIRE exercise in their class are INVALID. Don't wait to be suprised by this fact down the road.

Modern Defensive Training Systems, LLC is based in New Hartford, NY and offers a variety of courses for responsible citizens, corporations, law enforcement and the U.S. Military with a singular goal of providing up to date, realistic and practical defensive training. All of our programs of instruction utilize proven adult learning strategies and methods essential to proper integration, retention and immediate recall of learned skills. The MDTS training curriculums differ from other training providers in that we offer all our courses in 4 hour blocks of instruction. We understand that time is important to citizens, police officers and military serviceman. Some people just do not have or cannot take 8-16 hours out of their schedules to attend training.
